Creamed Chicken & Biscuits | Lemon Jelly Cake

One of my favorite meals involves butter, cream, garlic, chicken, and biscuits. This is a man-friendly, woman-friendly, kid-friendly, 14-month-old-baby-with-teeth-friendly meal. No one ever complains when I serve this.

Plenty of melted butter to make a roux:

Creamed Chicken & Biscuits | Lemon Jelly CakeStir in the cream, chicken stock, granulated garlic, salt, and freshly grated black pepper. You can use light or heavy cream for this recipe, but the sauce won’t thicken well with light cream.

Creamed Chicken & Biscuits | Lemon Jelly CakeCook and stir frequently until the mixture is thickened and smooth. (Don’t forget to bake some biscuits!)

Creamed Chicken & Biscuits | Lemon Jelly Cake. . . with biscuits, obviously. I typically use biscuits from a can, but you can make your own from scratch if you feel so inclined. I think this biscuit recipe from Tracey’s Culinary Adventures looks absolutely mouthwatering.

Creamed Chicken & Biscuits | Lemon Jelly Cake

Creamed Chicken

Serves 6
Recipe adapted from Allrecipes


  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 Cups chicken stock
  • 2 Cups heavy cream (or light cream, if you don't mind a thinner sauce)
  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic (more to taste if you love garlic)
  • 3 Cups cooked, chopped chicken
  • 2 Cups frozen green peas
  • salt & pepper to taste


Melt the butter in a large pan over medium heat. Stir in the flour until smooth and cook for about a minute.
Add the broth and cream, stirring until thickened and smooth. Season with garlic, salt, and pepper.
Mix in the chicken and peas. Continue cooking until heated through. Serve with warm biscuits.

      Thanks! Yes, the peas add a nice sweetness and color to the dish without being the star. The butter and cream are the stars. 😉
